Finally Finishing the Memories

Ya know those memories- the 'wish we did this' or 'I remember that' kind of memories.  I decided to knock some out this past weekend.

I was bummed that I didn't make the trip to Missouri as I had originally planned.  Between my meeting on Friday and having to be back for church on Sunday- it just wasn't possible.

After my meeting on Friday, I took a glorious nap (it really was).  I woke up and was bored.  I decided that I needed to do something, but I didn't want to do anything by myself really.

So I first started out and went shopping.  I wanted a new pair of shoes, but didn't want to spend a ton of money.  I ended up at Big Lots hearing about a sale- 2 for $5 flip flops!!  So I bought a few pairs....

I finally decided to go out and have a mani-pedi.  I've been meaning to for awhile actually, albeit I planned to go with friends rather than alone.  As I left, I started humming the song, "I Heard Him Come"- a primary song.

Now that I listed the activities, I tell you why this was such a bittersweet evening- well, before I get to the fun stuff....

I had originally left my flip flops in Texas City, I guess.  I haven't found them since my trip and assume they got left behind.

A few years ago, Steven and I were travelling across the country a few times (right after Philmont).  On one of our final trips back, we passed a waterpark in southern Illinois.  We didn't have much time (it was a Sunday afternoon) and we had to go back to class/work/whatever on Monday.  Since we had swim attire, we just decided to stop- just on a whim.  I'm ever so thankful we did.  The park itself wasn't memorable really.  I just remember that we didn't have money for a locker and put our shoes and stuff under a little bench and played in the water.  It was definitely a welcome 'vacation' from our vacation (the coast to coast trip was hell- I even got carsick, although it could have been from driving there and back multiple times in a few days).
Anyway, we ended up staying until the park closed at like 7 pm (sun was still up).  We came to learn that my shoes were stolen- total sadness.  We stayed for awhile hoping that they would turn up, but they never did.  As we had parked far in a gravel lot, Steven had picked me up and carried me fireman style for a few yards.  He had to stop though, I don't think anyone really has that kind of strength.  Finally, he switched and gave me a piggyback ride to the car instead.
As we were walking back, it was amazing in this empty lot, there were so many pairs of shoes!  Discarded shoes.  Walking to the car, he started carrying me from pair to pair.  We either made fun of them, they were broken, too big, too small, or something.  It was so much fun.  Finally, we found a pair of black and white flip flops.  The little button had popped out but otherwise the shoes were in perfect/nearly new condition.  Popped back in, they were perfect!  Since I didn't have any shoes, I opted to keep them.  We talked about how weird and probably gross it was, but at least I had something for my feet.  It was just a bittersweet fun story...

Which leads me to the mani-pedi.  Yes, I've had manicures.  I've had pedicures, but I had never splurged enough to have both.  I was supposed to....
Right before our wedding, (like day of kinda thing) Mom and I were supposed to go.  The wedding was scheduled for the afternoon and we were going to take the morning to have a final 'mother/daughter outing' before my father gave me away.  We had it scheduled for a place on Calumet Ave, they even called to confirm the appointment.  Well, it never happened.  There was a paperwork problem and we were at the courthouse all morning, day of (yeah, yeah, blah, blah- bad luck- you're too late).
Regardless, it didn't happen.

Next, it was Stacey's wedding.  It was planned that we would all go out and have our nails done.  Well, Stacey eloped so it didn't happen.

Then, when we met for the reunion, we were all supposed to go out and have our nails done then.  Well, my flight was changed (technically, I missed it because I had to check my carry-on) and missed the opportunity again.

Well, Friday seemed as good as any day to do it.  So I did it.  Done.
Before
After- with awesome lighting!

Awesomeness.
Lastly, the song.  The song reminded me of something that I would sing to myself often when I was little.  Usually, I would sing it when my parents were fighting or I felt alone.

  1. How could the Father tell the world of love and tenderness?
He sent his Son, a newborn babe, with peace and holiness.
How could the Father show the world the pathway we should go?
He sent his Son to walk with men on earth, that we may know.
How could the Father tell the world of sacrifice, of death?
He sent his Son to die for us and rise with living breath.
What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?
Have faith, have hope, live like his Son, help others on their way.
What does he ask? Live like his Son.

There's a reason why Primary kids have a favorite song- it is something that they need.  I was the only kid in my primary that really liked this song.  No one really knew why it wasn't the Snowman song, Spring time, Book of Mormon stories, or Jesus wants me for a sunbeam...  I just wanted to know why.

So that was my bittersweet evening- that is, til it turned to night....

God answers prayers, ya know.

So Debbie, Sarah, and I decided to go to a movie.  We got to Northlake and we didn't like anything that was out so we decided to go to Sonic for some grub.

Well, none of us knew how to get to Sonic.

So we went to Applebee's which is our failsafe for anything really.

We did something that no one really does.  We order EVERYTHING on the dessert menu.  Seriously.

Yum!
Here are the 7 yummy desserts.  Our faves were the chocolate lava cake and the cinnamon apple thingy.

So we had this nice waiter.  He was just that, nice.  He was oh-so-BroJo humble too telling us how perfect his streak is.  Finally, he asked (I thought in general) if we were single.  I said we all were, then he pointed at me and asked me  if I was single.  I said yes, then he said that the bar guy wanted to know (he delivered our mixed lemonades).  Right as we were leaving, this guy (not the guy we thought it was) drops a piece of paper down and scrams.  So sweet!  Poor thing.  It was an awesome night after all...
