Day 12 - La la la!

Day 12: the best advice you’ve ever heard, or ever been given

Don't Quit.

I don't remember where it came from exactly.  It was written on a bookmark I received with a picture of a sunset on it.

 Don't quit when the tide is lowest,
    For it's just about to turn;
         Don't quit over doubts and questions,
              For there's something you may learn.

Don't quit when the night is darkest,
     For it's just a while 'til dawn;
         Don't quit when you've run the farthest,
              For the race is almost won.

Don't quit when the hill is steepest,
     For your goal is almost nigh;
         Don't quit, for you're not a failure
               Until you fail to try.

I got it when I was around 18, which was a truly trying time in my life.
I was pretty done.  Another one that always touched me (which is a
thought and not so much advice) was to think that everyone that came
before me, did what they did, made the choices they did, and lived with
 the consequences they CHOSE to get me- their prodigy- to where I am
at right at this very second.

The ones who give the best advice, are usually the
ones who have the most problems.   - sadly, I've
learned this to be very true.  The best teacher in life
is to endure the pain yourself.  That's why some
people are so wise.  Their experiences had forced,
shaped, and pushed them to their absolute limits.
All they can do now, is try to explain, as best they
can to attempt to keep others from reliving their pain.

Others that I think are great- came from Primary

(kiddie) songs in church.

Pray.  He is there.  Speak.  He is listening.  You

are His child.  His love, now surrounds you.  He
hears your prayers.  He loves the children.

I am a child of God.
His promises are sure;
Celestial glory shall be mine
If I can but endure.

Because I have been given much, I too must give.
Because of thy great bounty, Lord each day I live.
I shall divide my gifts from thee with every brother
 that I see,who has the need of help from me.

Because I have been sheltered, fed by thy good care…
I cannot see another’s lack and I not share-
my glowing fire, my loaf of bread-
my roof’s safe shelter over head,
that he too may be comforted.

Because I have been blessed by thy great love dear Lord,
I’ll share thy love again according to thy word.
I shall give love to those in need.
I’ll show that love by word and deed,
Thus shall my thanks be thanks indeed.

and the alternative verse (which really drives it home)- ya know, the original lyrics

because love has been lavished so upon me Lord
A wealth I know that was not meant for me to hoard
I shall give love to those in need
Shall show that love by word and deed
Until my thanks be thanks indeed.

and it's sister song-
Who am I to judge another
When I walk imperfectly?
In the quiet heart is hidden
Sorrow that the eye can’t see.
Who am I to judge another?
I would be my brother’s keeper;
I would learn the healer’s art.
To the wounded and the weary
I would show a gentle heart.
I would be my brother’s keeper

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

 Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings; ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.

 So amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged; God is over all.
Count your many blessings; angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise thePow'r that had made and perserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust!"
- kudos if you recognize the song!  Shame on your soul if you don't...
(some people are so ignorant)

D&C 25:12 - this is amazing stuff (advise is a stretch), only
because songs 'randomly' pop into my head- and yet, a song is
 a prayer....
