Day 8 - A moment in time....

Day 8 - a time you felt the most satisfied with life

*Sigh*

I try incredibly hard not to think about the time I was most satisfied with life- mostly I fear because it can't happen again, so why put myself through it?

Anyway, most of you know how I talk about Philmont, but hands down- that was one of the happiest times of my life.

There are two parts, the first being the LDS Sundays there.

I would wake up to beautiful singing.  It was coming from the cafeteria which is also the gathering place for anything.  After getting up at the perfect temperature on a beautiful sunny morning (they were almost all like this, sometimes a bit cool in the morning).  We would make our way down to the mess hall and there were speakers and such playing music from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  Everyone is dressed to a T- even coming out of tents- because we all lived in them.

After a mass breakfast with a bunch of new people, and having an enormous opening prayer, we started services.  We ate group style- sitting next to all new people.

We had sacrament meeting- standing room only and wrapped around outside (amazing!).  There were like 20 or so boys passing to everyone.

Class we broke into classes across the bright green lawn and were taught by an Authority.  We were all fairly knowledgeable and able to carry on a great discussion.

After, we sang songs, played games in the field, read and prayed together.  There was such a sense of peace.

The second part went as to why I liked Philmont in general.

Steven was there- always a plus to have your best friend with you.  We were still newlyweds.  It was amazing to wake up to an amazing job every single day, never having any bills to worry about, never worrying about cooking or food, ability to have crazy adventures at the drop of a dime, and just being in an overall beautiful area.  I had by husband, my best friend Elizabeth (who was game for anything) and Will- who we dragged with us anyway.  We never worried for food- they provided us all the snacks we wanted on the trails FREE.  Never worried for entertainment- games and dancing nearly every night.  Even on hikes, you could stop at staffed camps where they had programs and other things to do.  Never worried for money- I received a steady paycheck weekly and didn't have any bills to pay!  I was surrounded by people who loved me without a care in the world.  Every day was an adventure, every night was a blessing.  I honestly believed that this is EXACTLY what heaven would be like.  I still do- it was truly amazing...

I've never been more thankful to live in a tent.
