So, like a student, I got to be off for Spring Break. It was kinda funny- there were e-mails and
phone calls from tech people all saying that campus was closing
completely. We had to change our
voicemails, unplug our computers, and were told- when you leave Friday, you cannot come back the next week- campus is
closed. Nice. Mandatory ‘get lost’ time.
So what better than to take a ROAD TRIP! Road trips alone are uber-lame and I did the
driving alone- but I decided to have some misery in Missouri! Well, at least for the weekend.
So Friday, I ducked out of work at 4:30p and drove to get my
rental car and got there right at 5:50- where they closed at 6! Very lucky, horrible traffic.
Debbie likes to bug me before we go anywhere, she followed
me to my makeup appointment, we went to Lee Harvey’s (outdoor bar) and listened
to a live band. It was pretty
awesome. Finally, we wrapped up the night
at the nail salon and left around midnight.
Leaving at 1 am, I had some cranky moments, sorry- PD told
me he was going to sleep and I was all like “Don’t thank me yet- I’m weighing
your worth against my effort”. I was
really tired. I got sick on the way there. I had to stop for a nap, food, gas, medication,
and *ahem* business. I finally figured
it out after an hour or so. I was
drinking zero calorie drinks with my last meal at 8pm the night before- my
blood sugar was like nil. After eating
some, I was able to complete my journey.
I got to MO at 7:50a exhausted, tired, and somewhat still nauseous. PD greeted me outside and gave me a decent
hug. We got the dogs and went
inside. I honestly can’t remember what
happened between then and leaving for Silver Dollar City but we got to the park
around 10am (late- the answer is late). We
met up with J&M, PD’s friends and went inside. She laughed and guessed my surprise when I
told PD I got super passes (expensive!) and told me that PD doesn’t like
rides. PD went on every coaster I
did. He put his foot down for some
smaller rides, which didn’t make any sense to me- whatever. We had to leave the park before closing at 6
because of a meeting he had to go to.
That night, we went to a ‘bar’ (I think it was called the
Bayou) for a Jaycee’s get together.
There were only a handful of people, but it was fun. PD’s mom was there too and gave me a hug and
a kiss. She sat elsewhere with a
different group of people. I was asleep
at the table trying everything to stay awake.
I’m glad the hotel was next door but I was half asleep around 920p. We finally left around 11p.
Sunday, we went to church.
It was interesting. During RS, I
had a baby! Not literally, that wouldn’t
have worked with the roller coasters the day before. I guess there’s a teacher that has a little
baby and my friend would watch him.
Well, she’s pregnant and also had her toddler that didn’t like nursery
(been there). The poor kid didn’t know
who I was. As we walked in, he was
screaming. She sat down and I walked
right out. We hung out in the hall,
grabbed a tissue. When I first went for
the door, he whimpered so I waited a few minutes more. We got in, sat down. He wiggled away and started staggering around
(he was fairly little), when I caught up to him and grabbed him, he started to
cry again- so I walked out, again. I put
him down in the hall. He ran about 5
steps, turned around, wailed, and put his arms up. I picked him up, we grabbed a tissue, and
returned to RS. Sitting down again, he
wiggled, but I was able to entertain him with little snacks until he finished
them. FINALLY, he fell asleep on
me. It was adorable. He kept waking up and slamming his head back
down on my collarbone, which kinda sucked, but I was more afraid he was going
to wake up.
When mom returned, baby left and PD and I ‘went home’. Well, ultimately, I went back to the
hotel. I let the dogs out. Again, I probably should’ve wrote a little
sooner so I could actually remember what we did (aside from making cinnamon
bread). I know there were some Bond
movies involved, but pretty sure that was later in the week. Sunday night, we got caught up in a snare of
a good time. We enjoyed little
sandwiches and yummy potato soup. I also
got to wrestle around with the kiddos on the floor while they tormented my dogs
(they’re mostly used to it by now). We
didn’t even leave until they were putting the kids to bed.
We went back to PD’s and watched some movie. I don’t remember, I fell asleep- still not
fully recovered from the driving and planning to do it the next day- sadness.
Monday, we met up for lunch with PD’s brother. He’s an interesting little fellow. We went to Alice Irene’s diner- which is
Alice’s name, so I sent her a pic. I had
to drag them grocery shopping (it was awful) so we could go make homemade
dinner. Everytime I turned around,
someone else was coming- but it wasn’t too bad.
I think there were 6 of us out of the original 3. I made my chicken lasagna and Banana’s Foster
(that’s right! We went to a liquor
store!) They didn’t seem to impressed,
oh well. The pasta wouldn’t cook right
(never used oven ready before) and after I had left it in for 45 minutes longer
(now like 7:30p) I was like- forget it- just eat it. I didn’t burn off my eyebrows, so it was all
good. We stayed pretty late, and
although I had a seminar scheduled for the next day, I didn’t possess the
energy for the drive.
Tuesday (the last day PD had off from work), he took me to
an awesome park full of my favorite things- greenery, hills, views, hiking, and
running WATER! I hiked up a steep hill
(mostly just to see what was on top), I saw PD on the phone. I was looking for another way down and was
gone awhile. When I returned, he was off
the phone, but as I threw myself down the hill (it was really steep. I went from tree to tree and slid a
lot). Toward the end, he was on the
phone again. When I finally made it to
the bottom, he caught me (for one), and we walked over to the bridge. He asked me to stay longer and that he had
been on the phone with his boss and had already taken the rest of the week off
work. How could I say ‘no’ to that? We went to Joplin for shopping to end the
day.
Wednesday, there was a Jaycee lodge meeting. Also, the beginning of some great fun. About an hour or two after eating some BBQ
(Texas-style of all things), I was oddly tired and feeling ‘weird’. There is no better way to describe it. I could feel something was really wrong, but
I didn’t want to worry PD much less describe what was happening to me. As the night went on, I was FREEZING. I was ignoring my severe sore throat because
I literally thought I was going to freeze to death. PD was really worried. He would kiss my forehead and feel my
face. I was burning up, completely
wrapped in a comforter and jacket. He
wouldn’t let me go home. I curled up on
his bed, but I didn’t sleep well at all.
PD is a big snorer- lame. By
morning, I was exhausted and warm, but I had finally broken my 103-104 degree
temp (that’s my threshold for
hallucinating and I was pretty close). I
could tell something was definitely off when I wasn’t sweating. I also felt like I was dying, really glad I
didn’t- that doesn’t bode well for impressions….
Thursday, I still was tired and weak. In the afternoon, we drove around and he gave
me a tour of the city and stuff by his car.
Friday, we went to eat at an Italian eatery- Mazzios- which
I found out is a chain as I saw many on the drive home. PD had a bad day, his brother was also saying
his goodbyes before his trip back to Afghanistan for a year. I left at noon and I believe his brother left
around 2pm. I had an uneventful ride
home and got home around 730p and pretty much just went to sleep.
There’s some other stuff that goes in there- we had a Bond
movie marathon some morning, we went to a park by the city with a canon, air
force plane, and a caboose that I crawled under. It was fun and creepy all at the same
time! I also missed some of the food I
made and places we went- but if I wrote everything, we’d be here forever!
