This pic was taken during our second date. We went to Six Flags Great America in Illinois. We also went bungee jumping there! Not bad for a second date!
Steven and I met at school- Purdue University Calumet in August of 2008. We met in Calumet Falls through our mutual friend Samantha. You see, Steven was Samantha's crush of a little over a year. For months prior to us meeting, I learned practically everything about him since I had met her in a Philosophy class. When Steve and I finally met, I admit, I didn't pay much attention. I was baby-sitting a table set aside for the Honors Program during their recruitment week. Sam introduced us and I glanced up from my book long enough to say hi. Fortunately, Steven, Sam, Kevin, and Pavel (other honor students) sat down and we talked for awhile. It took about five minutes before Steve and I were throwing confetti at each other- which made Samantha mad. Sure, we were throwing confetti at her too, but she made us clean it up. Sam made me ask Steven for his number to give to her. We separated and he hadn't given his number to anyone, but he had mine.
We met up a day or so later at the table when I was leaving. He followed me and we talked under the stairs to the library in the computer nook. He brought up something that I talked to him about during our first meeting- my religion. I was caught a little off-guard. I told him a little about it and gave a website (if only I had a pass-along card!)
That night, he texted me. I think he might have called, but since I didn't recognize the number- I didn't answer. After texting awhile, he called again and we talked for hours! It was amazing. Later, we went on a walk on the nearby bike path. Walking and talking, he asked to hold my hand. We ran around the little pond- the starry night- it was perfect. He walked me the mile or so home (we went pretty far!).
Wednesday, my roommate Sierra invited him to lunch with us at the BreadBasket- her favorite eatery. It was so much fun! Sierra loved him right off the bat.
Thursday, Steven texted me right after class stating that he was on campus. Night on campus is very quiet and serene. After I got out of my 9:30 class- I invited him to my 'midnight' snack at Cal Falls- cheese and crackers with a thermos of hot chocolate. We again went for a walk on the bike path- unfortunately, we lost track of time and miles and got home around 1AM.
At school the next day, Steven told me how furious his father was for him being out so long- my surprise was cancelled. We moved it to Saturday- when Steve found out I bought us tickets to Six Flags! I learned that Steven was bad with directions as he got us lost for an hour or 3! We had a great time- Steven was terrified and was trying to escape last minute out of bungee jumping. As we were falling (after the 2nd rebound) we both burst into a rendition of "I believe I Can Fly". It was wonderful. As late as we left the park, we still drove downtown and walked through some of the gardens before heading home (Grant Park).
Sunday, I discussed my feelings about our relationship and Sam. Sam was one of my best friends and I didn't want to hurt her by entering a relationship with her crush. We decided to separate and part ways if need be. But, not before I agreed to go with him to the counseling center for advice.
As we left and I went home, Sierra immediately pried the story out of me. She gave me a long look and asked why I let the person that made me the happiest she's ever seen me slip through my hands. I knew she was right, and Steve and I met up on the bike bath again.
Time passed. Steven took the discussions at church, the Daultons, the Mirandas, and the Karras with or without me. His faith and love for the Gospel is so strong! I have never met a more faithful man that had only recently been given the knowledge of the fullness of the Gospel. He is such an inspiration to me. He was baptized November 29nd into the Griffith 1st Ward by his LDS BFF Bryan Daulton and confirmed the next day in Sacrament meeting. December 7, Steven received the Aaronic Priesthood from Bro Miller of the Bishopric. He's now going through the interview process and will be receiving the Melchezidek Priesthood around the 1st week of May- before our wedding!
